To operate effectively, a hospitality team needs both task and social behaviors. The most effective teams simultaneously achieve high levels of social attentiveness (people) and high levels of competence (task). However, too much social attentiveness may lead to a country club mentality where everyone is having a good time while work suffers. Alternatively, when task focus is high and social attentiveness is low, team members will feel burnt-out and depressed.
