Overview: A literature review is an evaluative account of what has been
published on a topic by scholars and researchers. The purpose of this
assignment is to facilitate your abilities to research a topic of study
so you can learn to:
• identify and formulate an inquiry question that defines what you’d
like to learn,
• analyze the information found,
• synthesize new knowledge into a written literature review, and
• establish context for your inquiries. Thus, writing a literature
review helps you develop and demonstrate two valuable skills:
Research: the ability to scan the literature efficiently to identify a
set of useful articles and/or books and to obtain those materials.
Critical Evaluation: the ability to apply principles of analysis to
identify unbiased and valid studies.

Instructions:
In literature review you will synthesize the sources you have found on
the topic of your research (sources from annotated bib, plus your
rhetorical analysis, and you can include one or two more sources of your
choice). So your literature review will be based on 5+ sources of your
choice.
APA documentation style is required for this assignment. You will have
to have a title page, an abstract, literature review essay, and a
reference page.
Literature review will not include your personal opinions on the topic
as this type of writing is mostly utilized to illustrate the
conversation that surrounds your topic.
Keep in mind that in annotated bibliography assignment you looked at
each source separately. Now in literature review you have to compose a
report (with thesis) where you synthesize sources and determine WHAT is
being said in the conversation and what is missing from the
conversation. In other words, if there are any gaps in research, you
must note them in your review.
Using clear and concise language, please include an overview of your
research topic and put the topic in context for the reader in terms of
the time frame or focus you choose. Explicitly state the purpose of your
review in the introductory paragraph; your assessment of the body of
research should be clear in the concluding paragraph. Because this
review will be written in APA style, please limit the use of quotations
and rely more so on paraphrasing, which should be cited via in-text
citations in APA format (Terzaken, 2015).
Literature reviews are routinely included in the opening sections of
scholarly research reports. A successful literature review must be
defined by a guiding concept such as your research objective, the
problem or issue you wish to discuss. A literature review is not just a
descriptive list of the material available, or a set of summaries
(Whitaker, 2015).
