In this discussion you will each describe an experience with a culture in the United States (e.g. the Northeast, the deep South, the West, California, the Northwest), offer a possible explanation for that culture, and suggest ways in which you can best do business within that cultural region. The explanation does not have to be deeply ingrained in history. For instance, the Silicon Valley of California has a distinct culture that is based on the technology industries that have shaped that area’s work and life cultures.
Read Up in Arms by Woodard (2013). While a topic of this article is on the gun debate, the real topic is how the United States is divided into what Woodard describes as the 11 Nations that make up the United States. As you read this article, think of areas within the United States in which you have lived or worked. Think of overarching behaviors, customs, or nuances of people within that region.
